British Science Week: Celebrating Fibre

British Science Week is a celebration of science, engineering, technology and maths and runs from 5th to 14th March 2021. As a leading telecommunications services provider, we’re taking this opportunity to celebrate fibre!

What actually is fibre?

Fibre optics send information coded in a beam of light down a glass or plastic tube. The first fibre optic telecom link went public in 1977, but these days it’s so common we take its capabilities for granted.

Why choose fibre?

Fibre is better than other ways of transmission such as copper wire for a variety of reasons including:

  1. Transmission is faster
  2. It can cover greater distances
  3. Lack of interference unlike copper wires
  4. Space saving as they are smaller
  5. Able to adapt to changes due to the amount they can carry

How are we helping to future-proof towns and cities?

Locktel are a part of the telecommunications industry in the UK which is working hard to future-proof our towns and cities. It’s important to ensure everyone has access to high-speed, reliable connectivity in this digital world. We work with major players in the industry including CityFibre and OpenReach to bring fibre to where you are.
